SHOEI's Top Racing Model Developed to Satisfy Requirements of Racing Riders Handling Machines in Severe Situations It was essential to up grade all factors of Active Safety such as light weight, ventilation performance and aerodynamics in addition to factors of Passive Safety such as impact absorption performance. It was necessary, for this purpose, to start selection of materials and designing from scratch. As a result of all of these, X-Eleven was born. Even a completed shape has to change for a big progress. All are for safety of riders. X-Eleven, a summit of SHOEI X series and top racing full face helmet of next generation.
Main Characteristics of X-Eleven
Aerodynamic Shape
Improvement of motion performance and aerodynamics is one of development concepts of X-Eleven. Although it is essential to equip aero parts in order to restrain drag and lift, it is also necessary to secure easy and free movement of neck because riders face right and left and also backward not only forward like cars and bikes. In order to improve straight riding stability and also neutral motion performance SHOEI repeated wind tunnel experiments and riding tests and realized X-Eleven's completed aeroform. A shape completed by SHOEI who always considers aero force important and repeats wind tunnel experiments restrains wind noise and realizes prominent aerodynamics.
Decreasing air resistance to helmet means decreasing load to neck. Data show reading of measurements in circumstance equivalent to 100km/h
Aero Edge Spoiler
A large factor to create aero form of X-Eleven is "Aero Edge Spoiler" placed in rear portion of shell. It was developed from know-how of aero spoiler developed for racing service and restrains drag and lift substantially. "Aero Edge Spoiler" functions as air outlet also. There is an outlet hole in inner portion of "Aero Edge Spoiler" which is connected directly to mist retardant system.
Aero Edge Spoiler prevents air turbulence in a rear portion of helmet.
Light Weight
Lightweight helmet works effectively for both Passive Safety and Active Safety by restraining impact energy in accident as well as restraining fatigue of rider. Targeting light weight as well as safety performance, SHOEI realized further light weight with many equipments in X-Eleven. In its development, appropriate light weight for SHOEI's top model was realized without sacrificing safety through applying 4 sized shell, development of lightweight and strong AIM+ shell, making removable interiors lightweight and applying lightweight materials for large ventilation parts.
AIM+ (Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus Multi-Fiber)
High performance organic fiber is added to 3D shaped complex layers of strong glass fiber and organic fibers. High performance shell, lightweight but in proper rigidity and elasticity is realized.
Shell Size
4 sized shells of S, M, L, and XL were developed for corresponding helmet sizes in E-Eleven. While M and L sized helmets are made of one sized shell and adjusted by inner pad, shell and liner are exclusively for single sized helmet in X-Eleven. It realized proper hold and even fit in any sizes. In SNELL products which are tested twice in the same point at high energy, large size and heavy weight are unavoidable usually. But, applying 4 sized shells contributes to light weight and compactness of the product.
Ventilation System
Ventilation effect in wind tunnel experiment is graphed in colors. Blue color shows decrease of temperature. Change of temperature after exposed to wind equivalent to 100 km/h for 10 minutes.

In the days when it was questioned how helmet can be holed for safety SHOEI's ventilation system was born from its idea that helmet should not be hot and stuffy for safety. Wind tunnel experiments and riding tests realized real ventilation system different from those in image only. SHOEI's continued pursuit for comfort and safety progressed further in X-Eleven and realized ultimate ventilation system.

HYPER DUAL LINER II

Ventilation performance of helmet cannot be enhanced by simply equipping intake and outlet. When interiors are fit to head without gap, air steam is disturbed. SHOEI had developed impact absorption liner in 2 layers with air route in between. We call it Dual Liner Ventilation System where hot air is absorbed into air route and exhausted. New liner named "Hyper Dual Liner II" was developed for X-Eleven where air absorption route and exhaust route are separated for further enhancement of ventilation performance.

Intake & Outlet

Essence of X-Eleven's air intake is "Dual Air Charge System" which consists of "Front Air Intake" located just above shield and "Air Scoop II" in top head. Absorbing air from 2 points made it possible to correspond to any machine or riding positions. Against expiration around mouth and inside shield, "Aero Air Intake" which has 2 functions of defroster and direct intake and "Breath Chamber II" which absorbs expiration and exhausts through bottom end of helmet work together effectively.

3D FULL SUPPORT INNER TYPE3
Interiors are totally removable including strap cover same as former products.

Human head is very sensitive against partial pressure. Stiff discomfort or sense of incompatibility in long time riding disturbs rider's concentration. Therefore, SHOEI considers it very important for active safety to create comfortable texture and fitting without sense of incompatibility. Newly designed "3D Full Support Inner Type 3" which holds wrapping around the head is applied to X-Eleven. The interiors designed corresponding to curbed surface of head realized ideal fitting which is soft and comfortable and, at the same time, guaranties proper hold in high speed riding totally different from interiors securing hold by thickening polyurethane foam. for cheek pad also, shape of liner is similar to that of human cheek, and polyurethane pad is 3D processed to restrain excessive pressure on center and hold cheek evenly.

Newly Developed Shield Lock System

Q.R.S.B., SHOEI's accomplished system for putting on/off shield is favored by many riders in the world including racing riders. Shield can be replaced instantly and easily against sudden change of weather. In X-Eleven, locking mechanism is added to perfect system of putting on/off. Shield is locked by rotating preset lever rearward by 1 notch while closing shield. Shield can be locked easily in any riding style. Sudden opening of shield in accident or while looking rearward in high speed riding can be avoided.

CX-1V Shield
SHOEI's own shield where mechanical portion is integrated with inner surface of shield to create flush surface with shell progressed further in development of X-Eleven. Newly designed CX-1V with wider vision is made of UV cut processed polycarbonate and secures clear vision with minimum distortion same as former CX-1.
SHOEI's Idea of Safety
SHOEI considers that there are 2 safeties required to helmet. One is "Passive Safety" to protect head in accident. The other is "Active Safety" to provide comfort for concentration on riding. These 2 safeties which require conditions contradictory each other sometimes must by harmonized in high level in SHOEI's idea for safety. In addition to improvement against accident such as shell's materials, molding technollogy, balancing with liner and construction, performance to avoid accident such as ventilation, coverless shield and wrap around the head interiors is also progressed firmly. SHOEI believes that realization of these 2 safeties is essential in manufacturing helmet.
